How AON Verifies

Last updated: May 2026

AON reviews and verifies business evidence where possible. This page explains clearly what that means — what we check, what we do not, and what each document status means for your business and for institutions reviewing your profile.

1. What AON reviews and checks

For documents submitted by a business, AON reviews:

  • Document format and legibility
  • Completeness — whether the document contains the expected information
  • Expiry dates where applicable (tax clearance, PENCOM, NSITF, ITF)
  • Identifiers — registration numbers, tax IDs, certificate numbers — cross-checked against available reference sources
  • Consistency between the document and the business profile (name, sector, registration details)
  • Cross-document alignment — whether multiple submitted documents are consistent with each other
  • Issuer details where visible and available

2. What AON does not automatically verify

AON is an evidence-based platform. Standard document review does not constitute a full background check, credit check, or comprehensive due diligence investigation. AON does not automatically verify:

  • The overall reputation or track record of the business
  • Financial health or creditworthiness beyond submitted records
  • Actual operating capacity or ability to perform a contract
  • Physical site or location existence
  • Legal disputes, ownership disputes, or regulatory history
  • Criminal history of directors or owners
  • Quality of goods or services
  • Authenticity of documents that cannot be cross-checked through available reference sources

AON makes no warranty that submitted documents are genuine. Businesses that submit forged, altered, or misleading documents are in breach of AON's Terms of Service and may be reported to relevant authorities.

3. Document status levels

Each document in a business vault carries one of the following statuses. These reflect what AON has done — not a guarantee of authenticity.

Claimed

The business has declared a registration number or certificate reference. No file has been reviewed yet.

Uploaded

A document file has been submitted. AON has not yet reviewed it.

Under Review

AON is reviewing the document for format, completeness, and basic consistency.

Cross-Checked

AON has reviewed the document and cross-checked the identifier (registration number, tax ID, or certificate number) against available reference sources. The document appears consistent with the business profile.

Verified

The document has passed review, cross-checking, and any available confirmation steps. This is the strongest status AON assigns for standard document review.

Could Not Verify

AON was unable to confirm the document through available checks. The document is still on file. The business may be asked to resubmit or provide additional evidence.

Mismatch Found

Information in the document does not match the business profile or other submitted documents. The business needs to review and resubmit.

Expired

The document has passed its stated expiry date. The business needs to upload a current version.

Rejected

The document could not be accepted. This may be due to illegibility, incorrect document type, or a significant inconsistency. The business needs to resubmit.

4. What institutions should understand

Document statuses on AON — including “Cross-Checked” and “Verified” — reflect AON's document review process. They are not a substitute for your own due diligence, credit assessment, legal review, or site verification.

Institutions are responsible for conducting any additional checks required for their specific programme before making funding, procurement, or investment decisions. AON's role is to reduce the burden of basic eligibility screening — not to replace your institution's own risk management.

5. Enhanced verification (future)

AON is building an optional Enhanced Verification process for institutions that require deeper checks. This may include phone and email confirmation, reference verification, director identity checks, and institution-specific due diligence workflows. Enhanced Verification is not part of the standard AON profile and will be clearly indicated when available.

6. Reporting concerns

If you believe a business profile or document on AON is fraudulent or misleading, contact trust@aon.africa. We take misrepresentation seriously and will investigate all credible reports.
